In a world where more humanitarians suffer from their organisations’ ways of working than from the conflicts and disasters they live and work in, THI’s ambition is to challenge, transform, and humanise the humanitarian workplace.
Because, as no one in need should be left behind, no one helping should be suffering doing so.
The need for a renewed humanitarian community where aid workers are seen, heard, and cared for.
Over a decade of field, regional, and HQ experience, I too, was faced with the dis-hearting paradox of our sector:
humanitarian values vs. unvalued humanitarians.
Impregnated with solid work ethics, I was very soon challenged with the unresolvable equation of persevering in an overwhelming role without compromising my mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
To this challenge, The Humanitarian Initiative
is my response.
An attempt at offering an alternative.
A space, a reminder, a permission slip for all humanitarians wandering and wondering how the humanitarian sector has drifted so far from its first guiding principle: humanity.
Welcome, there is a space for you here.
Get all the support and resources you need to stay connected to your motivation and humanitarian purpose, to remain healthy doing what you love wherever you are currently based. All inside a community of inspiring aid workers who get it… because they’re doing the exact same thing.
THI’s signature programme:
Inside this unique 12-week container, you will unravel what is causing hardship, learn how to reconnect to your purpose, and find clarity about what you’re doing next.
Come as you are, leave transformed, re-aligned, and ready for your next smart move.
This one-on-one format offers mentorship tailored to your unique needs and wishes. Create lasting shifts and improvements even when your humanitarian life gets busy. Work directly with me and receive the individual attention you need, not letting anything get in your way.
Not even you!
Welcome, I deeply appreciate you being here.
What you will find here is my work to balance a hurting humanitarian world.
I created The Humanitarian Initiative and this healing space out of desperation to reconnect with my exhausted-self, to realign with my values, and to critically assess my next steps.
Through my personal realignment and healing work, I had visions of creating a safe, brave, restorative space for other humanitarians to bring their disillusion, exhaustion, doubts, and stories forward as they piece things back together and find meaning and direction again.
Social justice and fundamental rights for all are the ideals that got me in the humanitarian world in the first place. They are, and will remain, my moral compass in everything I endeavour.
I believe in showing up as we truly are. Both gifted and flawed. Constantly evolving.
Embracing our ambiguities, and showing up authentically is for me, a new form of courage.
Here, I will hold space you.
Here you will be able to lay your stories, your pains, and your questions in sorority, without judgment.
If you find yourself wandering, searching, and hoping for a “better”, know that you are not alone. There are many on the same journey. I am here to remind you that pushing through is not always the solution, and that hurting is not part of your job description.
• Helping you fulfilling your rights, life, and career as an aid worker is my job.
• Helping you thrive, embody, and propagate change is my mission.
You have the power, gifts, and the incredible opportunity to change the world for and around you.
